It sounds like Konsole might be crashing. Do you see a Dr Konqui window appear? If so, use that to report the crash to KDE.
If you don't see Dr Konqui pop up, you can try running Konsole from another terminal (we have a few in the repo). From the other terminal, just run Konsole. After it closes, there will probably be some output. If you go this route, please post that output as a reply here.
P.S. While Konsole is the default terminal on Plasma, it can be installed on any desktop environment. Are you using Plasma?
