the oddest thing ever - I accidentally pressed some configuration of keys and got a file name to be bold!?!
(Solus / Budgie)
It's just one file, doesn't matter, just very strange.

I believe this file is pinned. Make a right-click on this file and chose unpin (in german: Anheften/Lösen).
I found this here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=304267
Sebastian Ahh, yes, that's it! Also, I did notice it stays at the top of the list but could not figure out why. I've looked thought the right click menu a million times but somehow missed that one! I discussed this one with ChatGPT first but it couldn't figure this one out
Thanks!
You are welcome. I didn't know this feature existed either before I started to google. Seems to be a nice feature though.
Edit: I see this has already been answered by @Sebastian, so you can ignore this one!
This is a very useful feature of Nemo. It's called "pinning". From the context menu of a selected file you can choose "Pin", pinned items will always be listed first and emboldened to allow quick access to often used items, think bookmarking.
To return your file to normal select it and choose "Unpin" from the context menu.
johano Now that I know, I agree, it can be useful as it's so easy to apply, and, to multiple files. And the bold really makes it stand out nicely. So I'll definitely start making more use of it.
I'm an organization freak, I typically name files so they sort they way I would like - either by U.S. date format (where it automatically groups by months) or simply by adding some numbers in the name first ('01_name_of_file', '02_name_of_file', etc.). Now I have one more arrow to add to my quiver!
great feature of nemo I never knew about before and now glad I did. great info/great thread. good find, sebastian
Well, I can't take credit for it. It was @MichaelFinko who discovered this feature and @johano who knew it all along.
