Heya folks! It's Friday, and that means it's time for the weekly Solus roundup!

This week, we have updated our Flatpak package to use the /usr/flatpak/remotes.d directory to enable Flathub by default, instead of systemd units. The main benefit of this is that it doesn't need an active internet connection to add the repository. This fixes the issue that some people are experiencing where a message on startup appears saying that the service failed.

KDE Gear has been updated to 24.12.2. This is a bugfix release. Highlights include:

  • kalk: Fixes for the History view
  • dolphin: Fix pixelated preview images
  • kdevelop: Fix locations of Uses in macro expansions when using clang 19 or later

Check out their announcement here.

In Xfce land, Whiskermenu has been updated to 2.9.1. Version 2.9.0 added a bunch of features and fixes, including the ability to resize the menu by clicking and dragging, like a regular window, as well as some fixes for Wayland users. The full changelog can be found here.

Ghostty has been updated to 1.1.0, the latest upstream release. This release contains numerous bugfixes and several major enhancements. See the release notes for detailed information. Enhancements include:

  • Added support for server-side decorations, so ghostty won't look so GNOME-y in e.g. KDE
  • Improved support for CJK, dead keys, emojis, Unicode, and more as input
  • New "performable" keybinds that won't consume input unless an action can actually be performed

Klayout has been updated to 0.29.11. There are dozens of new features and enhancements between 0.29.7 and 0.29.11. A complete list of changes can be found here.

Strategy game enjoyers may be excited about our next item. 0 A.D. (0ad) has been updated to Alpha 27. This release features a new Vulkan renderer, multiplayer savegames, a naval overhaul, and a bunch of new maps. Check out the full release announcement here.

Zed was updated to 0.173.9, which now provides a LLM powered code completion support called Zeta. It uses their own derivate model as an alternative to GitHub Copilot. You can read more about it here.

We have a new package in the repository this week: Decibels. This is a new audio media player by GNOME.

Security updates

We have a security update this week. As always, install your updates to have the latest vulnerability protections.

General updates

The full list of updated packages can be found here.

For the list of currently known issues, see the dedicated thread for it. If you begin experiencing a bug, please look for an issue on our issue tracker, and open a new one if one does not exist.

That’s all for this week, folks! We'll be here same time, same place next week for another roundup of the news!

How did the sync go for you?

This poll has ended.

As usual, no problems with any of the updates for any of the computers, but a funny thing happened when I updated my Xfce laptop. I'll explain ...

When I upgrade my laptops, I restart the usual applications in their workspaces, and when I'm done with the Xfce laptop, I hibernate it and put it away for now. (Still using the Plasma laptop for a daily driver.) This time, all of the applications started without an issue except Thunar. I couldn't launch it from the dock or from the menu. Since this has never happpened before, and I'm not currently depending on that computer, I'm happy to see how things go after the next update.

Strangely, though, I wanted to see if the Xfce VM (which I'l previously upgraded and then shut down) would share the problem if I tried to start it, and the answer was no. On the VM, Thunar launched immediately. To be honest, those Thunar installations are not exactly the same.

As I'm preparing the Xfce laptop to be a duplicate of my Plasma laptop, it also mounts my 12 NAS shares, and it replaces the usual folders in my /home folder with NAS shares that are named the same, e.g., Documents, Downloads, Pictures, etc. Symbolic links provide those folders from the relevant shares in /mnt. And this scheme has never failed me before.

The VM, on the other hand, is meant to be used in helping new users, possibly providing screenshots to illulstrate how to do things. It's very much an out-of-the-box installation - in other words, no NAS, no shares replacing /home folders, or any other such modifications.

So, no problem with any of the updates, but I've still got some debugging to do, when I have time.

It rolls very well !

no problem.
On ASUS TUF Dash 15 with DE Budgie.

Axios

Renders fine for me on unstable running Wayland Plasma and in a VM on shannon (stable) X11 Budgie. So I would recommend you close the browser and try again. Maybe restart.
