Solus xfce + wayland. Which login manager?

Any brave user rocking xfce+wayland on Solus? What login manager are you using? It does not work will gdm, it seems!

Also, how is the usability and stability?

I've been using SDDM on my system with Budgie and XFCE. XFCE Wayland is stable enough, given a couple of important caveats:

The XKB plugin, which lets you change keyboard layouts, does not work.
xfce-screensaver has not yet been ported to Wayland, so there is no screen locker. You would likely have to rig something up with swayidle and gtklock or something.
xfwm4 has not been ported to Wayland, and labwc doesn't feel near as nice.

I tried once after the official release of 4.20, but doesn't feel nice enough to be part of my XFCE daily driver.

I am giving this another try and noticed that in the available session file:/usr/share/wayland-sessions/xfce-wayland.deskto startxfce is the binary being called, but after installation of the xfce-session-wayland that binary is not available.

Which package is that file in?

it is now possible to run Xfce under Wayland using labwc. If you wish to try it out, install the xfce4-session-wayland package, and select the Wayland session on the login screen.

Important: Wayland support on Xfce is still experimental, and should be considered alpha quality! Running Xfce under Wayland is unsupported! Not all components are Wayland-ready. These components will not run under Wayland at all:

Xfwm4
Xfdashboard
xfce4-screensaver
Xfce4-windowck-plugin
Xfce4-xkb-plugin

Thanks, the session simply does not open. I am trying again from gdm first. I suspect I missed some package. So, in my

/usr/share/wayland-sessions/xfce-wayland.desktop
I see these lines:

Comment=Use this session to run Xfce as your desktop environment
Exec=startxfce4 --wayland

If I open tty and type startxfce4 --wayland, an error tells me it can't find startxfce4.

xfce4-session-wayland is installed.

You do have xfce4-session installed, right? That's the package the start script is in.

Also, it seems that labwc does not play nice with Zoom sharing for the moment. But system is pretty solid. Too bad I can't show my windows xp theme in meetings!

lf-araujo Yeah, getting screensharing working is on my long todo list. It works on Fedora and Ubuntu Budgie with labwc, so it's something on our end.

EbonJaeger Thank you! Have you managed to set keyboard combinations to open the menu or a launcher like ulaunch?

lf-araujo I haven't customized them, but you can edit keyboard combos with labwc by editing labwc's config file. The default file is located at $HOME/.config/labwc/rc.xml. Once this PR is merged and synced, though, the config for Xfce will move to $HOME/.config/xfce4/labwc/rc.xml, and will contain Xfce-specific defaults.

As an example, to open Alacritty with Ctrl+Alt+t:

lf-araujo I also noticed that somehow labwc interferes with Gnome wayland login, still figuring out what part is causing that.

The error on tty: A connection to the bus can't be made ver 23:56:910: colg_texture_ld_new_with_format: assertion 'width >= 1' fail
