Time lag between launching an application and opening it

Hi there,
I've browsed the forum several times and I can't find the solution to my problem.
When I launch an application there is always a delay of at least 30 seconds before it launches (Brave, Steam, Discord...).
I installed them via the terminal from flathub.
I reinstalled the system and no change.
If you had this problem how did you fix it?

Daemon31 A few questions about your system if you would be so kind.

Compared with what other operating system that you have run on the same setup?
Have you checked disc Smart Data? If your drive is getting a bit sorry for itself then that could be the problem right there.
Are you running an SSD or traditional hard drive? Solid state drives can speed up program launch by about 6x.
I can see a lot of flatpak installed. Are these the programs that are slow to start? Flatpak runs in its own environment and will often take a bit longer to launch especially on slow hard drives.

In Terminal (flatpak update)
Prob not the issue but good to keep updated.

1: I've added an ssd to my current configuration to install solus.
2: I hadn't thought about that.
I'll have to check.
3: Dual boot
Solus OS and Windows 10 are installed on two different ssd's.
4: Brave and steam are the programmes I use the most.
It's these two in particular that bother me most.

Daemon31 First check disc Smart Data for both SSDs. Budgie has Disks utility which can check smart data, you need to click about in the menus to find it but well worth the effort. This is one of my first checks to carry out on a slow PC. An alternative would be HD Sentinel which has a permanent place in my troubleshooting programs.

Flatpak will always have that lag compared to native packages, but 30 seconds is definitely too much. Have you tried the native package for all of those? We have brave, discord, and steam in the repository. Seeing that you still have a lot of capacity, I assume this is a new install.

OK, I'll replace the flatpak versions with the ones in the store.

can confirm 15-20 sec is not out of the ordinary sometimes (with HDD)

two cents to OP this tool ^^ much more accurate than any built-in SMART tests so you could rule out/rule in the disk itself

Well then, with the programmes downloaded from the software centre, the applications start up more quickly.
I've installed HD and there's nothing to report, the hard drives are in good condition.
I update the applications quite often (too often maybe )
