Hi,
I know Brisk Menu has been informally discontinued since Solus dropped the MATE flavor.
However, it still remains the best menu applet to use on MATE.
My only issue with it is that the icon is not customizable. I've tried placing a "start-here" icon into multiple places, multiple times, but to no avail. This is impossible without modifying the icon theme, which is usually undesirable.
However, there is a 2 year old pull request that fixes this problem: https://github.com/getsolus/brisk-menu/pull/49
I know Brisk Menu won't receive any more updates, but I would highly appreciate it if someone merged this PR upstream.

All I'm asking for is to merge the PR. Nothing else.

So you're still using the MATE edition of Solus? I'm not sure anyone wants to review the patch, merge it, and update the repository package for a desktop environment that is no longer supported. Unless you're actually only talking about merging the PR on GitHub, without updating the package in the Solus repository. But then what good will it do? Much better for someone to fork the whole thing if they want to include that patch.

I think nobody would mind if someone from the MATE community stepped up and offered to fork and maintain that project going forward (outside of Solus, that is). Pretty sure some Ubuntu MATE folks already have commit rights to the current repository too.

Staudey I think nobody would mind if someone from the MATE community stepped up and offered to fork and maintain that project going forward (outside of Solus, that is).

Can confirm, I would love for us to not have to be responsible for it 😛

The thing is, getting a hold of anyone in MATE land is not so easy these days, from my understanding.

    Staudey

So you're still using the MATE edition of Solus?

No, I jumped the ship to OpenSUSE Leap a while ago.

I know MATE has been discontinued ever since the Resilience ISO.

Unless you're actually only talking about merging the PR on GitHub, without updating the package in the Solus repository.

    Yes.

But then what good will it do?

The thing about Brisk Menu is that it's an important component of MATE for many people, but its upstream is owned by Solus. Solus can do without updating the package - but many other distributions would still benefit from updating the package and in turn improving MATE experience.

I personally just don't want to have the burden of maintaining a separate package in my home repo with the only change being the added patch 😛 Especially when it can be just merged upstream
