Heya folks! It's Friday, and that means it's time for the weekly Solus roundup!

KDE Frameworks has been updated to version 6.8.0. As usual, it contains many fixes and improvements. The full release announcement can be read here.

Node.js 22 has entered the repository this week, following its promotion to LTS. The full announcement for this release can be found here. Many files were moved from nodejs to nodejs-20 in preparation for making nodejs-22 the default in a future release. This is causing slow upgrades; the upgrade may appear to be stalled, but just give it a while and it'll continue. Note: the Node repository package is only intended for building other packages with! Developers using Node.js should use nvm to install and manage Node.

Bitwarden-desktop was updated to v2024.11.0. The package now provides configuration so that unlocking the browser extension via desktop biometrics should be working if biometrics were working in the desktop app.

The Hyprland stack has been updated to the latest release. This update does have some breaking changes:

  • no_gaps_when_only is now gone in favor of workspace rules. See here.
  • decoration:shadow_ stuff has moved, see here for the new names.

You can read the full release announcement here.

The old IBus Unikey package has been replaced by the newer IBus Bamboo. If you had IBus Unikey installed, Bamboo will be installed automatically. IBus Bamboo was added to the Solus repository in recent weeks to give a better typing experience for our Vietnamese users.

Waydroid has been added to the repository this week. It is an Android emulator that runs in a Wayland container. Note: you must be running in a Wayland session to use Waydroid! Nvidia users also have to use software rendering.

Solus Cleanup Crew™️

Our Solus Cleanup Crew™️ has been hard at work this week bringing the repository up to current standards:

Most of these tasks are beginner-friendly, and can be a great way to learn Solus packaging. We invite anyone that has the time and inclination to join us!

If you would like to join:

  1. Join the Solus Packaging Room on Matrix
  2. Read and practice our packaging documentation
  3. Submit your first Pull Request. We recommend doing the homepage task
  4. Follow along the review process until your PR gets merged
  5. Continue on contributing!

Security updates

There are a few security updates this week. Make sure to install them, for the latest security protections!

General updates

The full list of updated packages can be found here.

That’s all for this week, folks! We'll be here same time, same place next week for another roundup of the news!

Known issues

  • NVIDIA laptop users might have the built-in display stay black when resuming from sleep / suspend. This is likely due to the NVIDIA drivers. If you have the proprietary NVIDIA drivers (nvidia-glx-driver) installed, there is a thread on their forums for feedback on the 560 driver, for those interested.
  • VS Code crashes when clicking on the File menu: There's an upstream fix for this that we are working on getting into unstable as soon as possible.

How did the sync go for you?

This poll has ended.

No issue on an all Intel Nuc11.

Hello, after updating, my user is no longer administrator.

I've just run the updates on another computer, also running Solus KDE, no problems.
On the PC where I had the problem, I did the updates via discover, so I don't know if that could be the cause.

Plasma user here. After the update mouse cursor and moving windows around is not smooth anymore. If I would have to describe it feels like vsync is running with a different refresh rate then the screen or something. Screen is 75 Hz, it's smoother when I turn it down to 60 Hz. Not a huge issue. But a bit annoying.

Some more info. 7840U with Radeon 780M.

Edit: Booting 6.11.7-308 has resolved the problem. I will do some more tests to see if it was just a temporary problem or the kernel is making the difference.

Edit2: Booted two times 6.11.7-309 and two times 6.11.7-308. 309 is not smooth, 308 is smooth.

      Hello,
I have got an issue with the last upgrade : NetworkManager.service failed wtih an "exit-code" (127). My KDE Plasma doesn't run anymore. I have no connexion indeed. I am not sure that uninstall the package will resolve anything due to depedences ...
      Any idea ? thk 🙂

kaktuspalme interesting. There were only really kernel config changes in the kernel bump, nothing that should have affected amdgpu users, but what DID change was that we updated the firmware. I'll look to see if any similar issues have been reported upstream.

Salamandral that's very odd. I wish you had kept it running since we could have gathered logs from it for debugging, but glad to hear it's working after a reinstall

ReillyBrogan Hi. Since the change to kernel 6.11 I get black screen and my monitors turn off. If I do Ctrl+Alt+Del the PC restarts. I wrote a post on the topic when the updates then were pushed but got no response. If I boot on 6.10 kernel, everything works fine. If you want to see any logs, let me know. Below are my PC info:

          Cherry-picked discord 0.0.75

The next sync will be a little late due to linux-firmware / kernel changes. Not a deferral to next week, just need a bit more time.
