power supply question

1) is there a CLI command to tell me how many watts/volts my power supply is? or do I have to pop the panels off?

2) I read if I went up from a stock Intel Core i5-4570 to a 4790 (max for this board) that I would likely need to upgrade power as well. True?

Operating my refurb while refurbing it.

From the spec pages for those two processors, you shouldn't need to upgrade your power supply.

The 4790 also has a TDP of 84W: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/80806/intel-core-i74790-processor-8m-cache-up-to-4-00-ghz/specifications.html

TDP isn't everything; it's usually more of an indicator of what kind of heatsink you'll need (and not always a good indicator of that, either). But IIRC these Haswell chips didn't vary much in power consumption as long as you weren't overclocking the snot out of them. And since neither of those chips is unlocked for overclocking, I think you'll be fine.

Probably best to pop the case open, or if it's the original power supply then maybe you could look up the specs for your computer online.

thank you. It's a modest office dealio from 2017. dust free, lotta stock but lot of new parts as well. I'm trying to maximize its efficiency (despite its limitations) on the cheap. No gaming beyond supertuxcart for me🙂.
I did that reading (not from factory like you did) but paid no attention to watts.

The M93p is kind of a cult model that tons of reddit-heads (with more money than computer is worth) upgrade to monster truck status. I am taking notes. I am a big believer of abiding by computer-maker maximums/parameters, not going rogue as it were.

synth-ruiner I think i will crack it just for my own FYI. it's bronze certified something or other, and the Lenovo manual lists all the min/max for these things and I don't know if its stock. so thank you!
