Hi there. As the title suggests, I gave myself a (new to me) challenge this weekend; turn old Mac Mini into a home server for file storage and a Jellyfin instance. Learned a ton, including finally understanding permissions and ownership better.
Brings me to my next question of file sharing over Samba. I have another project going on that I want to share between my Mac (not the server) and Solus box. I noticed some trouble when trying to work on the file with both computers accessing a particular file on the Samba share simultaneously. For example. When I edit a file on Solus and save/exit the file, I can access, modify and save it on the Mac. However, when I save the file on my Solus machine and leave it open, then switch to my Mac to open the file, it won't load. Until I close the file/application on Solus, retry on Mac. Then it works again. And visa versa.
Is there a way to make a file 'collaborative' friendly? Or perhaps, is there a way to make the collaborating environment more friendly to the file?
How does this work on larger scale situations, say an office, where tens if not hundreds of computers access 'that one file' ? Is this done simply with some configurations or options? Or a complete different sharing protocol? Some pointers are appreciated!
