COSMIC DE on Solus?

COSMIC looks and works great even before the official release.
Is there any possibility/plans for a Cosmic edition of Solus?

Serpent has been mulling over it (From discussion I read over on matrix). Some apps are already packaged on serpent repo. It's early days, let's actually see PopOS ship it first and make sure it is not hot garbage.

rincor I really enjoy it and look forward to how it will perform as the get closer to release. It is really quite pleasing to use.

Personally don't see it happening unless someone really takes intrest in cosmic and contributes with maintainership.
They currently in the process of phasing out mate for xfce, guessing there's still a lot of work and testing to be done for a new DE. (plus cosmic is completely new, from scratch)
Cosmic still looks pretty regardless.

I really liked what I saw.
This is supposed to be Gnome re-imagined? that's what I'm reading. But visually it's something else. Like any DE they have their 'from scratch' terminal, file manager, notes, etc.
It's beautiful.
What do we know about Cosmic? On top of an Ubuntu knock-off (Pop), on top of any Fedora, and on Nix which is self-created like Solus.

@diagnostics0 I ran Fedora Budgie a while and it was a far different (lesser) experience that Solus (best) and Endeavour (close). Since Cosmic has no 'flagship' really (pop, I suppose) it is still growing. Not a Spin, eh? And relegated to the COPR makes it more intriguing/underdog-ish 🙂

brent I think Gnome users would feel right at home with it, all while it seems like a much improved Gnome, with many more features ootb that Gnome requires extensions for.

brent The COPR maintainer would like to bring it up the quality level for an official Fedora Spin. That is still a long ways off as Cosmic is still in heavy development.

There are no plans at the moment to introduce a new desktop environment to Solus. As you can see from those commits, they are packages Reilly built for testing purposes.

That would be awesome. I tried to built it myself, but without success. I also check it out every now and then on my Fedora machine. I like it so far, even though many features are still missing.

Let's release the COSMIC first and then let it be ready so that it has all the features and is stable.
We're talking about the end of 2025
So there's still plenty of time and no reason to get nervous yet
