Staudey
You are correct, it was 277 not 227. MY bad. Regarding updates: I ran the sudo clr-boot-manager update
command and it goers staight back to the terminal prompt so I assume there are no errors. I've run 'sudo eopkg up' as well. Everything is up to date. I've installed the drivers again using Doflicky and it get the same result. It seems to crash just as the X Server is activating. I've tried uninstalling the xorg-driver-video-nouevau driver, same result.
I currently have three working theories and various levels of ability to test them. The first is that I'm beginning to think that it's a problem with the driver itself. I've been researching the issue on other distros, and the 535.* and 545.* series of drivers caused a LOT of problems, especially with the RTX 3060 that I have and one of the most common is exactly what I'm experiencing. However, the beta driver (official driver as of two days ago) is 550.54.14. The BETA on the repository still has the issue, I wonder if the production one would once we get it in. I'm considering trying the older 470.* driver as well.
Second theory is that it might have something to do with my onboard video card, the Intel Corporation CometLake-H GT2. The 'lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display' command gives me the following:
With the Intel as the primary, is it possible that something done during the installation process of the NVIDIA drivers are causing the Intel driver not to load, causing the freeze. This was a proposed root cause of the issue in a few Ubuntu forums. I can find no xorg config or blacklist files preventing it, however, I am also very limited to the command line when the drivers are installed... How can I check this?
My final theory is that it might be a signing issue with the UFEI Secure Boot. If the Nvidia drivers aren't being signed and registered like they should, that could be causing the issue (if Solus even works like that... It was the root cause of a number of Unbuntu issues with the same scenario). If that's the case, it should be an easy enough fix, I just have to generate a key, etc. etc. etc.
I will admit, I'm getting frustrated. If I could figure out how to kill the X Server and a myriad of other things, I would install the package offered directly by Nvidia, however the setup of those makes this troubleshooting feel like a cool spring breeze on a hot day. LOL
