I would say, for the average user, it should not be a problem to choose one or the other.
just to be clear, x11 is a really old software (with long history in linux, tho, not outdated) and Wayland is a relatively new software (more used now a days) that eventually will replace x11, not idea wen, but is happening progressively.
Talking about your four options to jump in, i'd suggest to use a virtual machine, that way you can take first contact with your options an avoid conflicts between windows and linux, wen you have ben familiarized with them you can take a more educated decision, then try a live version of the distro you like the most and see what problems could appear, usually is only video driver(nvidia usually) or wifi driver (you can't see wifi networks because the distro don't come with the driver for the adapter[detects de hardware but don't have de driver installed] in the liveusb).
Once you selected the distro to install, I recommend to make a clean install, and only have one distro at a time in the same hard drive (hdd or sdd).
PlatinumSun I and 2 other friends plan on switching to linux
Regarding that, Solus, Mint and Pop!_OS could be more easy to install software from the repos, by terminal if you prefer, but all of them have a great UI or Store like app to manage applications (install, remove, upgrade).
As I said, try them first in a virtual machine, you can use virtualbox or vmware for that, then on bare-metal with a live-usb(live mode, it don't require installation) and see what problems you encounter, when you are satisfied with a distro install it, but remember to make a backup of your important data, images, documents, etc that you want to preserve, then make a clean installation as the last step. Update it and you are good to go.
Welcome to linux and remember to read, that is super important.
