How do you install Solus?

Do you prefer to install Solus in UEFI or BIOS (Legacy) mode?

This poll has ended.

feel like forum hasn't seen you for years! nice to see you.

On a single drive pc, I like to let the Solus installer do its magic automagically, without prior GParted pre-sizing stuff. Is that UEFI?

my device support UEFI, so yeah i use it.

UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) is what all modern computers use. Older systems had BIOS (Basic Input/Output System). It is provided by a chip on your motherboard and you can think of it as sitting between your hardware and the operating system. People still incorrectly refer to UEFI as BIOS in conversation "Enter the BIOS and change X setting".

Although it has been around for 18 years there were some stragglers. My previous desktop computer built 2010~ did not have UEFI support but my laptop from the same year did.

But just because you have a system with UEFI does not mean your install is because of CSM (Compatibility Support Module) / Legacy Boot provided on most UEFI systems.

On my system if I want to boot off a USB stick I spam F11 early in the boot process to get a UEFI boot selection menu that allows me to select which device to boot from, I have to be careful to select the USB device under the UEFI heading. This is not how it works universally but is an example of how it can be easily overlooked.

Solus does not use grub on UEFI installs we use systemd-boot. So the simplest way to tell is if you have grub2 installed you are on a BIOS / CSM / Legacy Boot install otherwise it is UEFI.

Installed the ISO with BalenaEtcher in UEFI mode.

UEFI with secure boot on here on my laptop.

If the machine I am installing to supports UEFI then that is what I will choose but I also have older hardware that only supports bios.

      brent nice to see you.
