After creating VBox VMs of the four Solus editions that will be available for version 4.5, I wanted to compare the actual sizes on-disk of these editions. I wanted to do that now, before adding any extra software, taking any snapshots, etc. These are essentially just installed, out-of-the-box, so to speak.
I create all my VMs on 32 GB virtual hard drives, which include room for a 1 GiB boot partition, a 6 GiB swap partition (plenty for hibernating), and that leaves 25 GiB for the root file system. That's far more than any Solus edition needs in order to be useful. So, with all that said, here are the respective sizes of working Solus VMs:
I thought this information might be interesting to folks thinking about a fresh installation of Solus 4.5.
EDIT: These were created by the Calamares installer, which is new to Solus. I chose the option to use the entire disk, and to enable swap and hibernating. That resulted in a slightly larger swap partition than my usual 6 GiB. I thought I'd better explain before someone corrects me. By the way, Calamares is a huge improvement over the previous Solus installer.
