Hi there!
In my personal search of absolutely the best GCC baseline that will suit everyone, I would like to conduct a small wild life experiment. Feel free to join in.
So, I guess that every Solus user, without exception, has a better processor than Nocona. My guess is -march=nocona covers pretty much every processor that is still do its desktop job in real life. That is the true desktop\laptop "baseline" of today. The earlier systems are extinct and are pure hypothesis. Can you please prove me wrong with
diff <(gcc -march=nocona -mtune=generic -Q --help=target) <(gcc -march=native -Q --help=target)
Please don't take me for just another dude that want to break things for x86-64-v1 users. Quite the opposite. I'm just curious, do you really exist?
Yes, your system is expected to be way better then the baseline I proposed, so I do not expect much of activity there. Little to no response would prove me right I guess 😀.
